So in order hit someone on the right cheek (Mat 5:39), you would probably have to back hand them with your right hand (because using your left hand to strike someone was a cultural faux pas). The action of back handing someone was very degrading to the receiver of the blow, as if they were a lesser class of person (ie slave). To turn the other cheek is to look the person in the eye and say, strike me again as a peer (a normal right handed punch), and in that sense it makes it harder for them to hurt you. Wow.
Regarding the cloak, and handing him your undergarments as well, (you’ve probably heard this one before), is that the shame is more so on the person who sees a naked person than the naked person themselves. So its like, you can take my clothes, even my undies, but you can not take my dignity and soul and the shame is on you for being so material.

often times our tendencies to receive love are reinforced by how our parents loved us. if our parents love us in a particular way (verbally), then are ability to receive love in that particular way (verbally) is stronger (like a muscle) and ultimately has an effect on the way we distribute love.

growth is almost always on the frontier of weakness, and rarely in the comfort of strength. should our strengths be understood in the context of our weakness or vice versa? i believe that weaknesses become optional in the context of strengths, while strengths become the tools to face adversity in the context of weakness. we can’t merely focus on one side of the coin. focusing on weakness becomes hopeless and discouraging, focusing on our strengths turns to overconfidence and arrogance. only weakness and only strength come self-centered. i think that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. weakness is our context, our foundation where God’s strength is made perfect and our (God-given) strengths are redeemed in use and result.
i believe that dr scorgie is really calling for a higher level of self awareness (awareness of our context—weakness in self, strength in Christ) where a test like the strength finder ultimately gives us a glimpse into the unique, and perfectly made, individual that God has molded us into being, instead of a labeled and categorized

I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

we have a desire to work towards something together with our closest friends. like, to a certain extent, it doesn’t even matter what we are working together towards. it only matters that we are working together towards something of consequence. it reshapes an unfocused, aimless life to be purposeful and motivated. praying for it.

The brain has a limited capacity for self-regulation, so exerting willpower in one area often leads to backsliding in others. The good news, however, is that practice increases willpower capacity, so that in the long run, buying less now may improve our ability to achieve future goals
